A silver topped glass pot that is well over 100 years old and still looking marvellous!
What is a hair tidy I hear you ask! Well in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and beyond, they were commonly used by ladies to store hair that was removed from hair brushes and combs. Human hair was recycled to use, for example, to stuff a small pillow or to create mourning arts and crafts.
This charming glass pot has a high polished sterling silver top. Hallmarked in London in 1910 by Goodfellows and Sons, it is classic Edwardian pressed glass with a continuous design of alternating octagonal and square shapes. Nowadays it would be a lovely place to keep your precious little treasures, or hair grips and slides.
An unusual, attractive gift for someone who likes things a little different - maybe for a Birthday, Engagement or Anniversary.
The silver top is in lovely condition, the glass rim has two little nibble on the inside edge which have been polished smooth. ( see photo 4 and 5)
It is 6 cm tall and 6.2 cm wide.
