This beautiful antique silver thimble was hallmarked in Chester in 1913, by Charles Horner.
It is prettily decorated with a 'Princess May' style pattern with a diamond cut border at the bottom. The Princess May design is so called as it was used in a gold thimble given to Princess Victoria Mary of Teck, also known as Princess May, in 1893.
1913, the year that unemployment and maternity benefits were introduced, Emmeline Pankhurst was sentenced to three years of penal servitude and Emily Davison, another suffragette, ran out in front of the King's horse at the Derby and died days later.
The thimble is in excellent condition with a lovely hallmark, treasured by someone for many years. A lovely gift for a keen needle-person, or a lover of exquisite small objects.
It measures 2 cm tall, with an inner diameter of 1.6 cm.
It has been cleaned in a jewellers ultrasonic bath to bring out the best of this mini work of art.
