This pretty antique silver thimble was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1899, by Henry Griffith and Son.

1899 was the year that the Glasgow School of Art opened - the most notable work of Charles Rennie Mackintosh - and Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations premiered in London.

The thimble is attractively decorated in two halves, the top simply by little dots, the bottom by a nine petalled repeated flower. It is lovely to think how many different sewing projects it has been part of in its lifetime......

It is in excellent condition, treasured by someone for many years.  A lovely gift for a keen needle-person, or a lover of exquisite small objects.

It measures 2.7 cm tall,  the inner diameter of the finger opening is 1.8 cm.
