This handsome antique silver thimble was hallmarked in Birmingham in 1889, by S.Blackensee & Sons .
1889, during the reign of Queen Victoria, was the year that Birmingham was granted the status of a city, despite not (at that time) having an Anglican cathedral, which had previously been a requirement for the honour in England.
The thimble is simply decorated with repeated dots with a shiny rim. It is intriguing to think how many different sewing projects it has been part of in its lifetime......
It is in super condition, treasured by someone for many years. A lovely gift for a keen needle-person, or a lover of exquisite small objects.
It measures 2.3 cm tall, the inner diameter of the finger opening is 1.8 cm.
