This is one of those pieces you look at and think "That's pretty". And then you look at it again and think "How did he do that?" I have popped a technical explanation at the end of this entry for those interested.

What I will say is this is an exceptional work of art, one of very few made, involving a mix of different glass making techniques, resulting in a thing of beauty. This very lovely, hollow blown multi cane pear was made by Michael Hunter for Twists Glass. A very collectable work of art, known as 'Museum Quality'.

It weighs approximately 500g, is 17cm tall, and 10cm wide.

Michael Hunter's signature is etched into the base.

The technical bit....

Known as Patch it is made of a series of multi-coloured zanfirico, tessera merletto murrine and white vetro a filli canes arranged in a patchwork pattern encased in clear glass with a zanfirico cane red and black stem.

Zanfirico is a technique invented by glass makers on the Venetian island of Murano, Italy. Zanfirico glass consists of fine filigree canes which have been stretched and twisted to form beautiful lattice patterns.

Murrine cane -  coloured patterns or images made in a glass cane that are revealed when cut in cross-sections.
