Wow, over 100 years old and still looking beautiful!
What is a hair tidy I hear you ask! Well in the Victorian and Edwardian eras, and beyond, they were commonly used by ladies to store hair that was removed from hair brushes and combs. Human hair was recycled to use, for example, to stuff a small pillow or to create mourning arts and crafts.
This elegant glass pot has a high polished sterling silver top. Hallmarked in Birmingham in 1907 by George Edwin Walton, the pot is classic Edwardian pressed glass with swags and flowers and a diamond cut border pattern. Nowadays it is the perfect place to keep your precious little treasures.
A lovely gift for someone who likes things a little different - maybe for a Wedding, Engagement or Anniversary.
The silver top is in lovely condition, the glass rim has one little nibble on the inside edge which has been polished smooth. ( see photo 4)
It is 7.3 cm tall and 7 cm wide.
