Fun Facts about Flamingos.

It's strange how things suddenly become in vogue in the retail world and then seem to appear on everything from cards to pottery. Last year, and continuing into 2019, one of these hugely popular fads was Flamingos. And the pinker the better !

Interesting fact number one - Flamingos are born grey/white and their colour develops due to a diet rich in beta-carotene, found in the plankton and crustaceans they eat.

They are an American cultural icon that was was introduced in 1957 by artist Don Featherstone. In the 21st century, they are considered endangered. Efforts are underway to revive the art form, and in 2009, Madison, Wisconsin, named the plastic pink flamingo the city’s official bird.
